Agency sees slight uptick in next year’s budget

President Obamahas just signed a $1.1 trillion bill to fund, among other things, science research. The approval for this spending would last through September 2015 (except for Homeland Security spending which will be funded through early 2015.)


Total NIST:

The FY 2014 adjusted appropriation was $850.0 million

There is no overall report language.

 

Within this budget are the following programs:


Scientific and Technical Research and Services

The FY 2014 appropriation was $651.0 million

Report language pertains to several cybersecurity programs, a lab-to-market program, an urban dome program, and a forensics program.

 

Industrial Technology Services

The FY 2014 appropriation was $143.0 million

The FY 2015 request is $161.0 million, an increase of $18.0 million or 12.6 percent

The final bill provides $138.1 million, a decrease of $4.9 million or 3.4 percent below current funding

Report language pertains to the Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership Program and the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Consortia.

 

Construction of Research Facilities

The FY 2014 appropriation was $56.0 million

The FY 2015 request is $59.0 million, an increase of $3.0 million or 5.4 percent

The final bill provides $50.3 million, a decrease of $5.7 million or 10.2 percent below current funding

Report language pertains to NIST's two campuses. The section on the National Institute of Standards and Technology is found on PDF pages 7-8; a funding table is on PDF page 61-62. Note that language in the previous House and Senate appropriations reports stands unless modified by language in the conference report.
