In her new role as chief scientist for British Petroleum, former UMD physics professor and NanoCenter member Ellen Williams was interviewd by Physics Today.

Dr. Williams reflects on her arrival at BP just three months before the infamous Deepwater Horizon oil rig collapsed and spewed millions of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.

Never one to shy away from challenges, Williams has embraced her role administering R&D for BP, as well as the company's investment in biofuels.
