PBS-TV's Nightly Business Report recently reported on research being conducted at UMD to improve food safety. NanoCenter member and Bioengineering Professor Peter Kofinas, along with the Chair of Nutrition and Food Science, Mickey Parish, were interviewed. The research focuses on ways to package and produce foods to reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses, such as salmonella and E. Coli. Nanotechnology shows promise in helping to reduce transmission of dangerous bacteria in food.
