Yonggang Yao, a Ph.D. candidate in the UMD Department of Materials Science and Engineering, won first place in the Clark School Dean's Doctoral Research Competition. Yao, advised by MSE Associate Professor Liangbing Hu, submitted a project entitled, "High-Temperature Nanomanufacturing for Emerging Technologies."

Yao received both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Xi'an Jiaotong University in China. Since 2014, he has been a Ph.D. student and research assistant in Dr. Hu's 'nano' lab. He is set to graduate this May and will stay on at UMD, post commencement, to continue his work on high temperature nanomanufacturing.

This competition, created by Dean Darryll Pines, is intended to give top Clark School doctoral student researchers special recognition that will be valuable in launching their careers, and to impart on students the importance of high quality engineering research.

Congratulations, Yonggang, and keep up the good work!
